Recently, a student at Southern Miss wrote and article titled "35 Questions I Have For Southern Miss." This is my response.

----------------

1) Can someone please explain to me why we have three names? The University of Southern Mississippi, USM, Southern Miss. If these are the three you're referring too, please put yourself in my shoes saying a speech in front of the entire Greek Community and having to say "The University of Southern Mississippi" every time. Nicknames are a thing. 2) Does Brett Favre ever come to campus? No where does it say Brett Favre is expected to return to USM and be a top contributor. Do you go back to your high school as often as you expect Brett Favre to return to Southern Miss?

3) How is Miss Gloria not the most known person on this campus? Simply stating the obvious, if anyone should be the "most known person" on campus it should be Dr. Rodney Bennett, our school's president.

4) What's percolating? Percolate, as defined by Merriam-Webster is to cause (a solvent) to pass through a permeable substance (such as a powdered drug) especially for extracting a soluble constituent. Not at all what you though, right?

Century Park South opened in 2015.

Times and contractors change.

10) Can Seymour please come out more often? Seymour is at almost every university event, as well as most athletic events.

11) WHAT IS UP WITH THE PARKING? We have parking problems, we get it.

12) ESPECIALLY FOR COMMUTERS? Not a question, but refer to #11.

13) I mean seriously? Also not a question,

17) Why does Seymour's close at 4:00 on Fridays? People have lives, most classes are done by that time on Fridays anyway, go out you're in college. Treat yourself.

18) Why do we sell a donut bacon cheeseburger at sporting events? Athletics likes to have fun too...

19) More importantly, has anyone actually eaten the donut burger? Yes...

20) Does that donut make me look fat? Next....

21) Why is our wifi so awful? It's honestly gonna happen on any campus, no matter the size.

22) What did we do to have such awful wifi? Next....

23) Why is our gym known as the Payne Center? Go to the Payne Center, get the person to swipe your iD and right by the staircase to go up to the gym there is a big plaque that tells you all about Jim Payne, an alumni who donated money for the building. Also referring to #5.

24) Why does the Reed Green Coliseum not resemble the actual Coliseum in Rome? It wasn't modeled after the Coliseum in Rome....

25) If Jimmy Buffet graduated from here, why don't we live in Margaritaville? Not valid, did not graduate from USM.

It's always 5 in Margaritaville.

26) Where is the soccer field?

27) Does anyone go to soccer games? Go to one and you can see.

TO THE TOP!!

28) Why don't we have a swim team? Those budget cuts hurt the whole university, not just a few things.

29) Why don't we have a pizza place on campus? Powerhouse has pizza, its even open late!

30) Why does my dorm check-in require more swipes than Tinder? I'm not very educated on this topic, but I feel like Tinder doesn't require you to swipe...

31) Why is the lunch rush so slow? Excuse me....Have you ever tried to eat at Seymours after your 11:00 AM gets out and you have a 1:00 PM so you only have 45 minutes to get food and the line for subway reaches the game room?

32) Is it bad that the people in Starbucks know my name and order?

USM only hires the best! 33) Since Torie Bowie won a gold medal, can we just have our mascot be the Golden Tories?

No. 34) Why are people always comparing us to the other universities in the state?

I'm sorry, I just have this slight feeling this article was written in part to compare us to other universities whether it be in state or out of state. 35) Lastly, why does this university, with all of its quirks, manage to still have my heart?

Does it.....?
